Get the support you need, when you need it most

I am a divorce coach who focuses on the financial aspects of separation and divorce, as well as the emotional and logistical journey, for Washington State residents. I am also a financial coach for recently divorced individuals (residing anywhere in the U.S.A.) who are excited for this new chapter, but need support managing their money solo — for perhaps the first time in their lives.

As your advocate and cheerleader, I support you through your divorce and into your new life — strategizing before meetings or communication with your attorney/mediator/spouse, helping you design and live within your new budget, holding your hand through your first solo tax return, cheering you on as you buy your first house or negotiate your next career earnings.

If a map through divorce and out the other side is what you’re seeking, let’s talk.

In the wake of my own divorce, I trained to become a CDC Certified Divorce Coach® and a CDC Certified Transition & Recovery Coach®, and launched this much-needed service in 2022. Presently I serve those who are divorcing in my home of Washington State (one of only nine “community property states,” which has implications for dividing marital assets, as you’ll see).

I help you get up to speed on your financial situation and/or understand your options for divorce, so you build the team that best supports your desired outcome. The choices you make early on in your divorce prepare you to separate thoughtfully, maintain good relationships with your children (and even your spouse!) and stay out of court. In the end, you’ll save money, time and energy on your divorce because you drafted the map before you got too far along in the journey.

Topics we explore:

  • Who should be on your divorce team? How will you find and communicate with these professionals?

  • What are your marital assets and what could a “just and equitable” division look like for you?

  • What are the pros and cons of staying in the family home, especially in this era of high-interest financing?

  • How can you start to separate your financial lives during a divorce process that may last many months?

  • What do you need from your divorce settlement agreement to fund your best life after divorce?

I invite you to book a complimentary consultation below to explore how divorce coaching with a focus on finances could address your biggest fears, challenges and opportunities — and guide you toward a destination that thrills you with possibilities!

“Get Shelly in your corner”

Shelly was instrumental in helping me not only think through how to manage my finances as I embarked on life as a single person, but also in serving as a coach through the emotional and logistical side of the divorce process.

I benefited from her helpful advice and from her listening ear. I would highly recommend getting Shelly in your corner if you’re going through divorce or even thinking through the finances and logistics of what divorce might look like for you. ~ K.G.

“Get Shelly on your side early”

Getting Shelly on my side early in my divorce was a great idea.

I went into our first meeting with a CDFA feeling very empowered and prepared to present my value to the marriage — as the work-from-home dad who handles the day-to-day childcare.

Shelly is helping me get clarity on the steps of this process that I need to take. She’s also helping me get focused on my goals for life after divorce, which is unleashing a surprising energy and creativity. I'm moving forward with positivity! ~ G.M.

What is a divorce coach?

Your coach is your thinking partner, helping you focus forward and get down to the “business” of divorce.

Do not worry that your life is turning upside down. How do you know that the side you are used to is better than the one to come?

“I have made great steps forward”

Since our meeting, I have made great steps forward. I was able to redo the spreadsheet and really take a look at the asset division with clearer eyes. I met with my therapist to discuss what I really want in order to move on. I made some tweaks and am comfortable with our settlement agreement.

I’m looking forward to working with you when it comes to my own personal finances once this is over. ~ K.F.
